Little Fish

When it comes to swimming, Penny is a girl after my own heart! The two of us could happily spend every day at the pool! A friend from church gave me a big bag of hand-me-downs for the girls and there was a cute purple swimsuit that instantly caught Penny's attention. She struggled and struggled and finally managed to put the swimsuit on over her clothes and asked to go swimming. Since it was too early to go to the neighborhood pool, we filled up her paddling pool.

Sometimes, Penny loves swimming a little too much. Like when we are driving home from church and she sees the neighborhood pool and starts throwing a tantrum when we don't stop!  It's tough to be two :)

Eloise: 6 Months

Here are 6 things about our littlest girl:

1. Last month Eloise learned to army crawl. She has gotten to the point where she can get herself where ever she wants to go. Her crawl is slow but she can be quite determined.

2. I took her and Penny to visit my parents and attend the annual Harris family reunion. Eloise amazed me with her good nature and flexibility. She doesn't always get enough credit for that.

3. She has struggled with nighttime sleep but recently things have started to get a little better. Naps are the new struggle. Eloise has been using truewomb swaddles since she was a few weeks old, and she has started to outgrow them. The company that makes them seems to have gone out of business so I cannot get her a bigger size. The past few days have been really rough as I have tried to put her down for naps in a sleep sack instead. She cries and cries for her swaddle and I go in and comfort her every so often and sometimes she falls asleep for a little while. This is the closest to sleep training I have ever done and it's terrible!

4. Eloise has tried a few foods, but she would rather just nurse. It seems to be a recurring pattern with her. She prefers familiar things!

5. I think Miss Eloise might be a redhead like her Dad!

6. She loves to smile with her mouth wide open! I think she likes to keep her mouth open as often as possible so she doesn't miss out on finding something to suck and gnaw on!

Happy half birthday Eloise! How did that come so quickly??

Texas Summers

Whenever we have an evening free from Crossfit or church callings, we run over to our neighborhood pool. I am happy to report that my girls love swimming as much as I do! Sometimes Eloise keeps watch over our stuff while we swim but as its gotten warmer, she has started joining us in the pool. I found out about this somewhat controversial pool floatie for babies from this blog post and once I got over my shock I decided to buy one for Eloise. She loves it. It looks a little strange, but Eloise loves the mobility it gives her and from what I can tell she is perfectly comfortable in it. It gets a lot of attention when we go to the pool!

My biggest concern about moving to Texas was the summers. So far, it hasn't been as bad as I expected. My electric bill is pretty high from all the air conditioning (worth EVERY penny) but at least I can be comfortable. All of the swimming is turning me into a big fan of Texas summers!

Independence Day

We kept things low key this year for the fourth. The girls and I just got back from visiting my family and so it was nice to relax at home. We enjoyed a yummy steak dinner and got Penny's little pool out of the garage.
